Arcade Fire Frontman Will Butler Announces New Album

Arcade Fire frontman Will Butler has just announced a brand new album. Following up on some very impressive covers, Butler has revealed plans to drop a full-length project entitled Friday Night this summer. The material on the LP is pulled from a June 2015 show that went down at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall venue. Along with new rendition of seven previously-released records, Friday Night also features five entirely new songs from the Arcade Fire musician. The album will officially arrive on June 17. You can check out Butler’s very own explanation of the project below.

Think of this as a comedy record. In some ways literally-Brooklyn comedian Jo Firestone does the introduction and the “solo” in “Friday Night”-but also, it’s an album based on working out ideas in a room full of people, playing off their energy and expectations. It’s about taking complicated emotions and wringing communal joy from them, and then translating that joy onto record. So here you go!
