This week, we have Clams Casino featured for our Essentials series. While his heady, ethereal beats characterized the subgenre that came to be known as cloud rap, his sound can only truly be defined as his own. Making movements across Myspace and Twitter, the New Jersey native determined the early sounds of some of the game’s most influential, namely Lil B and A$AP Rocky. Having worked in person with Lil B for the first time this year on ‘Witness’, Clams Casino is just as mobile offline. For one, the man knows how to work in comfort, opting for a clean tee with APC denims and an old pair of D’Acquaparta “Magnifico Sand” sneakers. We get an intimate look at the producer’s skeleton set-up. Compatible with both iPad and iPhone, the Apogee microphone affords him on-the-fly recording. His rugged Akai EIE Pro audio interface comes complete with an hard metallic body and vintage-style VU metering. A known Sony Acid Pro user, Clams Casino considers the sturdy Toshiba PC a must, and has done so since he first started producing beats. He also keeps the past at hand– not only is he a fan of the dystopian classic Clockwork Orange, but he also winds down with the Wii U to re-visit old Nintendo games. Although professionally trained in physical therapy, Clams Casino is certainly not one to neglect the psychological benefits of his furry companion, Vader.
