Hayao Miyazaki Is Not Impressed With Artificial Intelligence

While it seems that machine learning is being tested on just about everything from self-driving cars to movie trailers, not all industry leaders are welcoming the research with open arms. After being shown a demo of CG zombies created by artificial intelligence, legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki and co-founder of Studio Ghibli had some harsh words against the technology. He referenced his friend who suffered a disability from certain movements and mentioned that a machine would never be able to the empathize the pain. “I am utterly disgusted,” he quoted. “I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all.” At the end, the Spirited Away director stated that he feels we are “nearing the end of times” where humans are losing faith in themselves.
