Snakes, Panthers and King Charles Spaniels Adorn Gucci’s Bold 2016 Cruise Collection

Vibrant colors, intricate embroidery and bohemian looks with hints of rock-and-roll have been the signature style of Alessandro Michele since he took the helm at Gucci last year. Through his detail-rich collections with unexpected touches (this season’s collaboration with GucciGhost and a guest appearance by Snoopy immediately come to mind), the Italian creative director has earned himself a devoted following amongst celebrities and fashion enthusiasts around the world. The 2016 Gucci Cruise collection is no different — the range pushes Michele’s vision forward with eccentric pieces like studded leather jackets embroidered with King Charles Spaniels, while continuing to deliver the animal imagery and lavish embroidery that have become the brand’s instantly recognizable hallmark over the past seasons.
Though Michele sites British culture as a constant inspiration, the 2016 Cruise collection brings this influence to the forefront using the concept of “English Collectors.” Formally debuted with a runway show at Westminster Abbey, and a photoshoot at the beautiful gardens of the Royal Chatsworth House, the collection presents Gucci’s take on cultured, high society featuring structured tailoring, ribbon trim and floral accents. But the lineup doesn’t only focus on the aristocracy. Michele also looks back to the English punk movement of the 1970s and ’80s, and the collection nods to the rebellious youth culture of yore with a mix of tartan check, brogue boots and bleached tapered denim.
