Editor’s Note: We love scouring the internet for reasons to spend money we don’t have on cars we daydream about owning, and these are our picks this week. All prices listed are bid amounts at the time of publishing.

The new Range Rover Velar goes on sale later this year, and it promises to be a fairly simple and user-friendly SUV with host of modern electronics and a straightforward user interface. That’s great. But if you really want a simple and user-friendly SUV — go old-school. How’s an extra pedal and a gear lever for a straightforward user interface? That’s even greater.

1995 Land Rover Range Rover County LWB

What we like: You can’t go wrong with a black and tan color scheme. One key detail with this particular Range Rover: the seller converted the troublesome stock air-suspension to a more dependable spring setup.
From the seller: You are looking at an extremely nice and very clean Range Rover that looks garaged, regularly serviced, and taken good care of.

1971 Land Rover Defender Diesel

>

What we like: This Defender might be the antithesis of the new Velar, in terms of luxury, but then again, some might say simplicity is a luxury lost on modern cars. How do you not fall in love with this thing at first sight?
From the seller: Series IIA, with original diesel engine. 4×4. Left-hand drive. Engine and transmission in perfect shape. Not a show car but a great car to use and go to the trails. Has

The Gear Patrol Special Edition 1980 FJ40

What we like: Well, we helped design it, so… Everything?
From the seller: Look under the hood of the FJ40 and you’ll find a fully restored Toyota 2F engine – one of the most reliable and durable classic engines out there. During the restoration process, this engine receives The FJ Company treatment: a new carburetor, wiring, starter motor — the works. And, if you desire more highway performance a 5-speed transmission upgrade is available.

1990 Land Rover Defender 90 200TDi

What we like: The Defender lacks the luxurious appointments of the new Velar, but it makes up for that in old-school off-road prowess.
From the seller: The underbody and engine were partially stripped down, and the finish was brought back with compounding. The medium green paintwork is known as Bronze Ascot Green and is accompanied by a white top and black offset Challenge wheels.

1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62

What we like: Apart from a few minor blemishes, this FJ is in really good condition for the mileage shown (165,000 miles). A Land Cruiser of this vintage is barely in the second half of its life — move quickly.
From the seller: The 4.0 liter 3F-E inline-six is mated to an A440f 4-speed automatic transmission, and records indicate regular maintenance was performed by the seller including a new A/C compressor, R134 conversion, new fuel rail, O2 sensors, gaskets, and valve adjustment.
