Up until today Kia’s entire lineup could be classified as econo-boxes marketed at #millenials and destined for rental fleets. But today at NAIAS Kia made a clear statement of intent to the contrary with the all-new Stinger.

In a sea of alphabet-soup car names from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac, Infiniti, etc., the name “Stinger” stands out, just like Viper, Raptor, Charger and Mustang; kudos to whichever executive let their kid name the car. What’s more: Kia even developed the Stinger on the Nürburgring. While that’s not a notarized guarantee of success, the 3.3–liter twin-turbo V6, good for 365 horsepower and a 0–60 time of 5.1 seconds, is a solid indicator that the Stinger can entertain. For the first time in my career, I can honestly say, “I’m looking forward to driving that Kia.”
