The timing couldn’t be better. Just as reviews of the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice complained that our newest Batman matches the seriousness of Nolan’s Dark Knight, but without any of the fun of the Joker, Lego released the first trailer for The Lego Batman Movie. The second feature film released by Lego, coming next February, will expand on Will Arnett’s cameo in The Lego Movie, which spoofs the brooding Batman made standard by Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.
The trailer shows the dazzling investment that Lego has made in their lineup of feature films made for both kids and adults. (It’s less of a surprise when you consider The Lego Movie made half a billion dollars worldwide on a $60 million budget.) In addition to The Lego Batman Movie, Warner Bros plans to release Ninjago in September of 2017, The Lego Movie 2 in May 2018 and Billion Brick Race, written by Jason Segel and Drew Pearce, sometime after that. Here’s to the film’s future Oscar nomination — a nomination that The Lego Movie was robbed of.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s grittiness is overshadowed by its need to set up the rest of the franchise. Read the review here.
