Apple TV 4K Official Announcement

As expected, Apple followed up the debut of the Watch Series 3 at today’s event — the first-ever at the new Steve Jobs Theater — with the latest addition to the Apple TV lineup. Simply dubbed the Apple TV 4K, the new release is exactly what it sounds like: an Apple TV capable of 4K. Offering 4K HDR with Dolby Vision support, the new device utilizes the same A10X fusion chip as the iPad Pro will offering 4x the GPU performance of the current TV. Those 4K capabilities mean a ton of new content is on the way as the Cupertino tech giant is partnering with Hollywood studios to bring 4K versions of all your favorite films to iTunes — each of which will sell for the same price as the current HD offerings. Apple will even automatically upgrade your existing HD purchases to 4K at no additional charge and is bringing live sports and news to the TV app. And Hollywood films aren’t all that are getting 4K additions: Apple is getting 4K content from both Netflix and Amazon later this year, too.

The Apple TV 4K will be available to pre-order this Friday, September 15, from apple.com and is due out on September 22 for $179 USD.
