Expanding on his creative prowess, Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld recreated a Parisian street to debut the French luxury house’s Fall/Winter 2018/19 Haute Couture collection. The Kaiser, who is no stranger to elaborate runway shows, mocked up an entire cityscape inside the Grand Palais which included Parisian landmarks such as the green bookstalls that line the river Seine along with the domed, neoclassical Institut de France that houses the country’s language council.
The first styles to grace the recreated Parisian street were a collection of classic Chanel tweeds in steely colors, transformed into elongated jackets with elbow-length slits on the sleeves and ankle length skirts. Looks were then elevated by fingerless gloves, adding a chic take to the delicate collection. Next up was a range of evening gowns and cocktail dresses crafted with embellished hems made from feathers, beads, jewels, and metallic glint. Finding a line between sporty and regal, the 67 looks featured luxurious materials such a chiffons, failles and tweeds. Watch the full presentation above.
Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2018/19 Haute Couture show comes only a few days after the label revealed itself to be the joint-biggest luxury house in financial results.
