Duffer Brothers Discuss “Stranger Things 3”

Even though Stranger Things 2 has only just hit Netflix, the show’s creators are already putting plans together for the show’s third season. Speaking to Indiewire, the Duffer Brothers discussed the direction that the next installment will take, as well as what the future holds as the young cast grow up. As it stands, season three is still in its earliest stages, with Netflix yet to officially greenlight the series.

Season two of Stranger Things has been one of the biggest television successes of the year, with viewing figures rumored to be well above 15 million in the US alone. The return of the series has also led to a slew of new merchandise releases, with everything from “Justice to Barb” socks to an exclusive capsule with BoxLunch all dropping over recent weeks.

Check out some of the Duffer brothers’ key quotes from their IndieWire interview below.

On the direction of the next season:

“It’s not necessarily going to be bigger in scale. What I am really excited about is giving these characters an interesting journey to go on.”

On which ’80s references to expect:

“There’s plenty of ’80s films and whole filmmakers that we haven’t touched at this point … I don’t want to say any movies in particular. I might give it away.”

On the cast growing up:

“We are leaning into it. I love the fact that they’re going through adolescence … [Adolescence] is a very dramatic part of your life, and drama is good! So I think it’s good it forces the show to evolve.”
