Kanye West Nominated for Design of the Year Award

London’s Design Museum has announced the nominees for this year’s Beazley Design of the Year award, which was won by IKEA’s flatpack refugee shelter last year. The awards aim to reward the world’s best designs in six separate categories — fashion, architecture, digital, graphics, product and transport — before naming one overall winner. The fashion category features The Life of Pablo merch and pop-up stores by Kanye West, which appeared around the world in August 2016, as well as Nike’s “Pro Hijab” and Aitor Throup‘s “The Rite of Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter” show at London Fashion Week: Men’s.

Other nominees include last year’s winner IKEA, which was nominated in the Product category for it’s quick assembly “Wedge Dowel” furniture, and Frank Ocean collaborator Wolfgang Tillmans, who’s work during Britain’s EU Referendum earned him a nomination for the Graphics category. All of the shortlisted designs will be on display at London’s Design Museum from October 18, before a winner for each category and one overall winner is revealed early next year on January 25.
