London-based architecture firm Zaha Hadid Architects has designed the extravagant Morpheus Hotel in Macau, with an eye-catching design inspired by China’s jade carving tradition. The most significant detail of the building is the three cut-out sections in the middle of the building, which are intended to create an “urban window” into the city.
Other notable features of the 40-storey building include a dramatic escalator, the world’s first free-form high-rise exoskeleton and a special installation from KAWS. The hotel was built on the existing foundations of the site, and features 770 guest rooms as well as different suites and sky villas. The Morpheus Hotel makes up part of the City of Dreams resort, which also includes casinos, theaters, a shopping district, 20 restaurants and four hotels.
