Skepta Officially Wins the 2016 Mercury Prize

Skepta has just joined an elite club that includes artists and acts such as James Blake, The xx, Portishead, Dizzee Rascal and others. Skepta’s most recent studio album Konnichiwa has just won the 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize. Skepta beat out David Bowie, Kano, Bat for Lashes, Radiohead, The 1975 and more to win the illustrious award, which honors the year’s best album from a British artist. Last year’s award was given to Benjamin Clementine. Last month, Skepta shared a preview of some new music he’s working on. His last major release was the iLoveMakonnen-assisted “Coming Soon.”
