Bangkok-based designer Thakorn Wannawong presents the visuals to TAKARA WONG Fall/Winter 2018. As a label deeply inspired by subcultures in music — spanning hip-hop, metal, rock, down to underground punk — the latest collection focuses on the ’70s – ’80s punk movement in London, England. Drawn to the level of energy felt during a live performance, Wannawong quickly gravitated towards the rebellious spirit and nonchalant attitude towards social acceptance, thus landing on “Beautiful Derelict,” or as Wannawong describes it, the “splendor of heathens.”
In this collection, we see the seamless integration of four artworks by Thai artist, Nakrob Moonmanas via prints on fabrics. Placing himself in the punk era, Wannawong also applied techniques and symbols synonymous with the movement, as seen in the Circle-A symbol, tartan prints, a number of metal accessories, and bold text. The collection was also made with a high level of focus placed on cutting, translated through various jackets that stand out purely based on silhouette, while other pieces of outerwear along with bottoms lean on a combination of oversized, body-fit, puffy, and boxy cuts.
