It has become a tradition for Mercedes to create a special Edition 1 version of any new model it launches, whether it’s an entry-level crossover or a AMG-tuned car. And the new Mercedes-AMG GT four-door is no exception.
Just for 12 months starting September this year, Mercedes-Benz will offer a special Edition 1 to its already well-equipped AMG GT 4-Door Coupé.
A glammed up version of the AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ model, the car will be available in exclusive shades of Grey Magno, Diamond-White Bright or Graphite Grey metallic, premium Nappa leather upholstery with coordinated stitching, and an assortment of carbon fiber pieces.
Staying true to its name, the AMG GT 63 S features a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 630 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. The same engine used in the AMG GT sports car, Mercedes claims it can go 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 195 mph. Power is sent to all four wheels by default, but, as with the Mercedes-AMG E63 sedan, the GT63 features a “drift mode” that allows all power to be diverted to the rear wheels.
The most striking additions to the Edition 1 is the cosmetic aspect, with a beautifully upgraded look. The chassis is sprayed with a matte with offset stripes over the top, lined with some additional gray stripe graphics on each side. The interior features sleek gray and black color seats to match the exterior and carbon-fibre trim, with contrasting yellow stitching that adds a nice pop of colour to the otherwise dark colours. There is also ambient lighting in the sedan, with illuminated door sills.
Besides aesthetics, the Edition 1 is distinguished from the standard GT63 S by some enhancements to aid its performance, including an Aero Package, a fixed rear wing, larger 21-inch forged AMG wheels and a larger front splitter — that Mercedes claims to increase downforce without generating additional drag.
Pricing for the Edition 1 hasn’t been announced yet, but it is likely to hit the market early 2019 with the regular GT 63 and GT 63 S models. More details on the release of Edition 1 here.
