Infiniti to unveil retro, electric concept car at Concours d’Elegance 2017

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2017 is about to kick off this month in California and the participants at the event are busy making those last-minute tweaks before throwing back the curtains to guests. One such brand that is sending teasers of a new model that will be shown in advance, is the Japanese car-manufacturer Infiniti.

While the name of the post-war sports single seater concept car has yet to be released, we do know that unlike its exterior appearance, the car will have a modern, electrical engine. Produced by the top-end branch of the Renault-Nissan alliance, the car is one that some compare to the famous Silver Arrows creation by Mercedes that was once the king of the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit in the 1950s.

The thought process for the car was simple according to Nissan’s Vice President in-charge of design, Alfonso Albaisa. He explained that the project originated in “a simple thought”: what an old race car, hidden deep inside a Japanese barn for decades, might look like. Using the retro design, engineers then added technology that is currently being developed by the manufacturer. The goal is to blend tradition with modernity, craft work and cutting edge electronics into one finely assembled car.

While this teaser is certainly exciting for car enthusiasts, especially those who have a passion for sports cars of a bygone era, Infiniti will not be the only car manufacturer to show off a new concept car at the classic car event. Rumour has it that BMW and Mercedes are set to introduce a roadster and a saloon car respectively.
