The adidas Superstar is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. That’s almost 20,000 days of being iconic. And while The Three Stripes Brand has hinted at special editions of its classic shell-toe, which is rumored to have three more collaborations with Prada lined up for March, the marquee silhouette has welcomed 2020 in rather quiet fashion. Though commemorative Lunar New Year iterations are significant, they have taken a much more reserved approach than previous (and future) blockbuster editions and the Valentine’s Day Superstars unveiled thus far are no different.
Unlike versions surfaced alongside the Stan Smith and Nizza earlier this week, this adidas Superstar overtly pays tribute to the February 14th holiday. From rubber toe cap to heel panel and everything in between, the legendary silhouette is left in a begging-to-get-dirty white; this simple construction has been adidas’ go-to for Valentine’s Day. Festive signifiers come by way of the barrage of pink, red, gold, and black heart and trefoil graphics that cover much of the lateral side, while tiny scarlet hearts embellish the flat white laces.
