Craig Green Constructs Effigies of Man & Beast for SS19 Campaign

For Spring/Summer 2019, Craig Green presented a bold and vibrant collection which drew inspiration from classic textile prints. Building upon this, the London-based designer has unveiled the campaign for his SS19 collection seeing a series of wood, straw and paint constructed effigy-like objects in 3D form, titled “Clean + Crushed”.

Using a three-piece triptych system, the artworks illustrate archetypical masculinity and work together to depict battles between man and beast when on full display. The construction of a triptych is meant to fold and destruct itself, making for artworks that morph into a new piece of art showing the two opponents combine to into a mythological hybrid creature.

Craig Green is known for reinterpreting the idea of the human body — this campaign continues on from his SS18 imagery that saw human figures constructed from color-blocked jerseys and pine get set on fire. Both this campaign and the SS18 campaign explore Green’s fascination with impermanence through destructing his artworks.

The handcrafted structures see luminous colors such as neon pink, teal and green, tapping the SS19 Craig Green collection, and draw inspiration from mythical idealizations of a bird, snake and horse.
