JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR x ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 OG Release Info

ASICS has tapped Japanese retailer JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR for two colorful collaborative takes on the GEL-Kayano 5 OG. Dubbed the “Change,” each shoe in the collection accentuates its classic late ’90s build with abstract artwork, bright colors and bold detailing.

The first pair opts for a bold paint splatter print, using everything from purples to blues, reds and yellows for a visceral, abstract style that’s not too dependent on any one color. This bold build makes for a visceral look, one that’s seemingly equal parts Futura and Jackson Pollock. The second pair uses a bright blue hue for its base, and swathes itself with wild lines and patterns that reach from heel to toe.

Although both pairs are more art than sport, classic athletic flair is provided by purple and silver Tiger stripes on the lateral and medial quarters. Tongues are done up in white, and feature purple ASICS or JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR hits. More J_O graphics appear directly under the lateral collar. Down below, white and grey midsoles are constructed of DUOMAX foam and place purple GEL cushioning in the heel to finalize the look. Each also comes packaged in a unique box that replicates its signature detailing.

A raffle for the JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR x ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 OG collection is open now on the JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR webstore, and will run until June 19, with winners being selected shortly thereafter. The price for each pair is set at ¥17,600 (approximately $164 USD).
