'The Joe Rogan Experience' Will Soon Be a Spotify Exclusive

After acquiring Gimlet Media, Anchor and Parcast last year, Spotify is ramping up its push to secure the podcasts realm from Apple by signing The Joe Rogan Experience.

The deal with the beloved American comedian, mixed martial arts color commentator and podcast host is huge for the streaming platform as Joe Rogan‘s JRE stands as one of the most popular podcasts in the world. Last year, it was revealed that The Joe Rogan Experience receives about 190 million downloads a month.

According to Spotify, The Joe Rogan Experience will be available globally September 1 and at some point over become exclusive to the platform. Although listeners will not have to pay for the show, they will need to be Spotify users.

Despite not revealing how much the deal costed them, Spotify did reveal that Joe Rogan will be retaining creative control over his show and that it will be working with an ad agency to jointly sell ads against the program. Additionally, the JRE YouTube channel will no longer feature full episodes and only provide clips and supplementary content.

Announcement: the podcast is moving to @spotify! Starting on September 1 the podcast will be available on Spotify as well as all platforms, and then at the end of the year it will move exclusively to Spotify, including the video version. It will remain FREE, and it will be the exact same show. It’s just a licensing deal, so Spotify won’t have any creative control over the show. They want me to just continue doing it the way I’m doing it right now. We will still have clips up on YouTube but full versions of the show will only be on Spotify after the end of the year. I’m excited to have the support of the largest audio platform in the world and I hope you folks are there when we make the switch!
