Perhaps it is best to explain; GPHG we are not. What we are is a consumer-focused trade title that seeks to discern, understand, and anticipate the burning questions and desires of anyone who loves watches. To that end, the categories and the novelties that have been nominated or selected as eventual winners are reflective of how a watch consumer might shop or embark on a decision-making process. That said, the selected watches are not curated in a vacuum; a panel of two editorial staff and two collectors were chosen to pick from the novelties of 2018.
This is essentially an elegance prize for the dressiest watch a person can wear on formal occasions. It can be simple or complicated, but the form must be within the confines of what looks best when you want to appear “dressed up” in a conservative, sartorial sense. Bonus points if the timepiece can push the boundaries of “suit and tie” without entirely breaking it.
Bulgari OctoFinissimo Automatic Sandblasted
The Octo Finissimo Automatic Sandblasted is essentially Bulgari’s second, and inarguably perfect, execution of Genta’s initial creation (pre-manufacture integration). Simple yet gorgeously finished, the latest Octo Finissimo is the latest in a line of highly awarded and record-breaking extra-thin watches from the Le Sentier manufacture. Home to the Calibre BVL 138, the new record holder for the world’s thinnest automatic movement, the facetted case design is now finished with a sandblasted treatment that’s rough in appearance yet smooth to the touch. This is an unbelievable dress watch with all the charm of an ultra-thin timepiece and the contemporary swagger of watches far bigger than itself.
WOW Awards consist a total of 11 categories. The rest of the winners will we announced over the next 5 days.
