As DC Comics looks forward to the second film featuring their “extended universe,” Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, out March 25th, Marvel is busy hyping the 13th film from their own shared universe. A new trailer for the film Captain America: Civil War, which hits theaters May 6th, premiered online yesterday. The second trailer builds on the first by developing more of the conflict between the Avengers, and introducing Spiderman for the first time. As Suicide Squad, coming this August, shows, DC is trying to emulate the success of Marvel’s shared universe, with another eight films taking place in the extended universe scheduled by the end of 2020. As The Avengers first showed in 2012, and then Iron Man 3 the next year, and then Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, these super hero buffets can easily rake in over $1 billion. This trailer is just another benefit of the civil war in Hollywood, with Marvel clearly in the lead and using summer 2016 as the box office battleground.
