Jeff Staple’s Reed Space served as one of the pillars of an ever-growing subculture which combined footwear, fashion, street style, art, and more into one super-category that operated beneath mainstream waves. For all who obsessed over these things, Reed Space was a meeting place both literally and figuratively. The shop, ensconced on Orchard St. in the Lower East Side, was an ever-rotating assortment of apparel, footwear, accessories, and reading material that more or less touched on emerging ideas that were on their way to mainstream. The shop’s shining moment is undeniably the 2005 release of the Pigeon Dunks, a shoe that is most certainly one of the four in an imaginary “Mount Rushmore” of kicks. But by then, the shop already earned its esteem for being a true curator of our world. Almost fifteen years after its grand opening, Reed Space is closing its doors. While this may seem like sad news, the shop is confirmed to open at a new location in the very near future. Read the official statement by Reed Space below.

Friends of Reed Space,

Since December 2001, Reed Space has lived on this humble block in the Lower East Side. We opened Reed before the dust even finished settling from the 9/11 tragedy. Back then, the idea of a space like this was
completely new, different and unique.

In the 15 years since then, times have changed tremendously.
Our subculture has blossomed into an industry titan.
We were once the outcasts. Now we’re the poster children.
We literally “started from the bottom” & it has been an incredible journey!

But we now feel it’s time for a complete reset.
In 2001, we redefined what Retail meant.
What Curation meant. What a Community Space meant.
We now feel it is time to redefine once again.

It is with regret that we inform you that Reed Space will be closing its doors at this location on Sept 30th, 2016. We will be re-opening at a new location in the very near future.

Keep up to date with us @reedspace and at www.thereedspace.com.
See you again soon!
