{"id":74635,"date":"2020-05-08T14:08:55","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T18:08:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thatdope.com\/rides\/youth-americas-cup-rhkyc-team-agiplast-selects-first-five-sailors\/"},"modified":"2020-05-08T14:08:58","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T18:08:58","slug":"youth-americas-cup-rhkyc-team-agiplast-selects-first-five-sailors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thatdope.com\/rides\/youth-americas-cup-rhkyc-team-agiplast-selects-first-five-sailors\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth America\u2019s Cup: RHKYC Team Agiplast Selects First Five Sailors"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club has selected its first sailors from a provisional pool of 12 to join RHKYC Team Agiplast, the Club\u2019s challenge for the Youth America\u2019s Cup 2020-2021.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_226546\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-226546\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Left to right: Maria Cantero, Nicolai Jacobsen, Calum Gregor and Jackie Truhol<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The first five selected sailors are Calum Gregor (21), Nicolai Jacobsen (17), Maria Cantero\u00a0(22), Jackie Truhol (21) and Aymeric Gillard (23).\u00a0Sailors must be over 18 by November 1, 2020, and under 25 by March 12, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The original 12 applicants were interviewed over the internet in late March and questioned about their sailing experience and their understanding of foiling boats, with nine selected to progress to the physical assessment including pull-ups, bench presses, shoulder presses, body weight squats and speed trials on a Concept2 rowing machine.<\/p>\n<p>The seven Hong Kong-based candidates undertook the physical assessment over the Easter weekend involving various exercises, and the two overseas candidates also carried out the same exercises in their locations when restrictions allowed.<\/p>\n<p>RHKYC Team Agiplast intends to have a permanent crew of two male and two female sailors, with an extended six-strong crew featuring another male sailor and female sailor. The allocation will be reviewed in September, giving Head Coach Chris Rashley time to consider the sailors\u2019 performance in fitness and team building between now and then.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"nN3U22Czhw\">\n<p>Youth America\u2019s Cup: Chris Rashley To Coach RHKYC Team Agiplast<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe title=\"\u201cYouth America\u2019s Cup: Chris Rashley To Coach RHKYC Team Agiplast\u201d \u2014 LUXUO\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luxuo.com\/motoring\/yachting\/youth-americas-cup-rhkyc-team-agiplast-coach.html\/embed#?secret=nN3U22Czhw\" data-secret=\"nN3U22Czhw\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Gregor is a well known youth sailor in Hong Kong and has competed in over 30 international regattas and has foiling experience. In recent years, the Hong Kong-born sailor was U-17 world champion and third Overall at the 420 Class World Championships in 2015, sixth overall at the 29er Class World Championships in 2018 and fifth overall at last year\u2019s Waszp class European Championships.\u00a0Gregor was awarded the RHKYC\u2019s Tom Larmour Award for Young Sailor of the Year in 2013 and the RHKYC Sharks Best Performance Award in 2014 and 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobsen was the\u00a0Waszp European Champion 2018\u00a0and last year came second in Foiling Week and third U-21 and ninth overall at the\u00a0International Waszp Games.\u00a0He\u2019s currently ranked ninth on the Waszp SSL ranking.<\/p>\n<p>Cantero, who has recently been coaching RHKYC\u2019s Laser 4.7 and Radial youth sailors, has competed in over 20 international events in 29ers,\u00a029erXXs and 49er FXs, and was a member of Spain\u2019s 49erFX pre-Olympic team for Rio 2016. She won bronze at the 49erFX Youth Worlds in 2013 (skipper), was seventh at the 49er FX Junior Worlds in 2014 (skipper) and fifth female at the 29er Worlds in 2015 (crew).<\/p>\n<p>Truhol also has extensive international sailing experience and has come up through the RHKYC\u2019s youth sailing team, the Sharks Squad. Truhol has trained and competed overseas since 2014, including in 13 countries during her gap year.\u00a0 She was 18th out of 65 at the 2017 European Radial Youth Girls Championships, fifth at the 2017 Asian Sailing Federation Cup Women\u2019s Radial and third at the 2017 Hong Kong Race Week Laser Radial Open. Gillard has experience in the Red Bull Foiling Generation, Moths and Waszps, and has designed his own foiling craft. He was also a member of the Hong Kong 29er sailing team for three years and received the Tom Larmour Award in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy Sutro, RHKYC\u2019s Rear Commodore (Sailing), said: \u201cThe physical assessment was tough and gave the candidates an indication of the levels of strength and fitness that will be required to handle the AC9F foiling monohull which they will be competing in.
