Starbucks Wednesday opened its first cafe in Colombia \u2014 a world famous coffee exporter \u2014 apparently unafraid it will be like selling sand at the beach.<\/p>\n
STARBUCKS\u00a0teamed up with local company Nutresa, and picked a location in Bogota\u2019s exclusive Parque de la 93 for upscale appeal.<\/p>\n
Starbucks \u201cis looking to achieve a leadership position<\/strong> in the Colombian domestic market,\u201d a Nutresa statement said.<\/p>\n Colombia is the world\u2019s leading exporter of smooth arabica.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n So in a country where people know their coffee, Starbucks has decided to sell 100 percent Colombian beans in all its Colombian outlets.<\/p>\n \u201cFor us, it is a point of pride that Colombia will be the first country in Latin America where all the coffee Starbucks serves will be 100 percent Colombian,\u201d said Carlos Gallego, head of Grupo Nutresa.<\/p>\n Colombia, with 47 million people, a booming economy and growing middle class<\/strong>, is an increasingly frothy market for international investors.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
