Apple Music Teams Up with Dubset to Stream Unlicensed Mixes

Recently, Apple Music has announced their partnership with Dubset, a digital distribution company. Reported by Billboard, the partnership entails that more DJ mixes and song remixes would appear on the service. Before this, it was impossible for streaming services to pay royalties for the artists featured in mixes but Dubset’s MixBANK playform can analyze a remix or DJ mix, identify the songs and effectively pay record labels and artists. According to CEO Stephen White, all licensing can be handled in-house by the company, who has already signed agreements with over 14,000 labels and publishers. White shares:

“The goal is to bring this to all 400 distributors worldwide. When you think about unlocking these millions of hours of content being created, it’s significant monetization for the industry.”
