A Look Inside Acne Studios' Madison Avenue Flagship in New York City

Stockholm-based Acne Studios has opened up one of its largest flagships yet, setting up shop on the corner of Madison Avenue and E 74th Street in New York City. Located one block from the iconic Met Breuer building, the store is the first to employ gold as its signature tone — electrostatically gilded metal walls and aluminum fittings decorate the entirety of the interior. Along with the golden look is a black asphalt floor and structural pillars that are dotted with semi-precious stones to further push the opulent aesthetic. Better yet, longtime collaborator Max Lamb filled the space — which he also designed — with specially crafted bronze desks, benches and stools, not to mention custom hand-dyed rugs that were tufted by Kasthall in Sweden. Finally, a full lighting surface makes up the entirety of the ceiling to offer homogeneous lighting throughout the space.

Said creative director Jonny Johansson of the store:

For me, it was important to elevate the store design into something spectacular since the location demands it in a way. And, therefore, I went for gold. Classic, but still in the universe of Acne Studios, it’s like a local store on a global stage.
