BJ The Chicago Kid Posthumously Duets with Marvin Gaye for “What’s Going On”

Continuing to drop new records, BJ The Chicago Kid has unveiled a modern spin on Marvin Gaye’s classic record “What’s Going On.” Sharing the effort as a posthumous duet with the famed soul-singer, BJ The Chicago had the following to say in a statement to Pitchfork:

Singing alongside Marvin Gaye is truly a dream come true for me. Uncle Marvin is, and will always be one of the greatest. This collaboration also solidifies why I’m here in a time when it is proving to be more difficult for artists to find outlets for music with live vocals and live instrumentation. Marvin Gaye wasn’t only the standard for R&B, he also made a huge impact on pop music & pop culture. Long live R&B…

This new duet is part of a 10″ vinyl EP in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the original track. Besides this, the EP boasts the “original 7″ mono single version” of “What’s Going On” and “God Is Love,” and a pair of “Motown: Re-imagined” versions of “What’s Going On.” Included in the aforementioned pairing is today’s drop and a “Coffeehouse Mix.” You can stream BJ The Chicago Kid’s new “duet” above.
