HBO Orders a Prequel Pilot to ‘Game of Thrones’

Although hit television series Game of Thrones will come to end following its eighth and final season next year, hardcore fans have much to celebrate, given that HBO has officially ordered a prequel pilot to a new series that would cast a spotlight on some of our favorite characters and plot twists. Entertainment Weekly reports that Age of Heroes takes place 10,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones and could very well address the construction of such key landmarks, as The Wall, House Stark and House Lannister.

According to HBO, the story is set up “Taking place thousands of years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”

The pilot will be penned by Jane Goldman, who has worked on such films as, Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, in addition to George R.R. Martin — the famed author who wrote the books the series revolves around. If all goes according to plan, the prequel series would debut no earlier than 2020, following GoT’s final season.

In case you missed it earlier, FX renews Donald Glover’s Atlanta for a third season.
