Nike Unveils The Power-Lacing HyperAdapt 1.0

Great scott! Power-lacing Nike sneakers? You would’ve guessed the Nike Mag that is set for an auction sometime this Spring, but Nike is actually unveiling a different power-lacing sneaker called the HyperAdapt 1.0. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers, the HyperAdapt 1.0 features a proprietary “adaptive lacing” system that activates when the athlete’s heel hits a sensor which will automatically tighten the laces. There are buttons on the side for tightening and loosening the laces to achieve the perfect fit.

For decades, Nike and its top designers/engineers have been working on ways to reduce the stress caused by traditional shoelace constructions. Classic silhouettes as well as modern day silhouettes have addressed the issue, but nothing comes close to the micro-tuning capabilities of the HyperAdapt 1.0. Tiffany Beers was tasked with creating the infamous self-lacing Nike Mags for the monumental reveal in October of last year, and from that process, the adaptive lacing technology was born. For more, head to Nike News, and stay tuned for a one-on-one interview with Senior Innovator Tiffany Beers.
