Best Sneaker Releases: February 2019 Week 1

The weekend’s Super Bowl festivities have officially come to a close and so has last week’s batch of sneaker releases. Ahead of Tom Brady snatching his sixth ring we saw Nike and Jordan Brand usher in a selection of Black History Month-themed kicks inspired by basketball. adidas also made its presence known with the release of the Jonah Hill-endorsed adidas LXCON and the highly-coveted BAPE x adidas Football release. LeBron James’ “SuperBron” Zoom LeBron 3 finally released after its PE debut back in 2005. Lastly, the Swoosh also shared its long awaited Air Max 720.

Heron Preston x Nike Huarache E.D.G.E.

Heron Preston‘s next collaborative drop with the Swoosh lies in the Nike Huarache E.D.G.E. The model serves an upgraded rendition of 1991’s Huarache Run and will be offered in white and black-based colorway options with Heron’s own design accents found on the heel and toebox.

Air Jordan 12 “Chinese New Year”

The Air Jordan 12 “CNY” celebrates the Year of the Pig as Sail provides a contrast to its black satin base and metallic gold accents. Moving on towards the inner lining is where the festivities begin thanks to a bold mix of colors. Lastly, Chinese characters take the place of the model’s signature Jumpman logo on the left tongue to complete the lively design.

The Boston Celtics’ own highlight reel – Kyrie Irving – is back with a new colorway of the Nike Kyrie 5. Its “Chinese New Year” edition celebrates the Year of the Pig with a colorful Chinese quilted pattern on the heel and its Flytrap lacing setup.

Air Jordan 33 “Chinese New Year”

Jordan Brand contributes to the “Chinese New Year” festivities with the Air Jordan 33. The laceless basketball sneaker showcase a black-dominated upper that complements a translucent sole unit. Similar to the Air Jordan 12 “CNY,” you’ll find bright contrasting colors on the tongue and insole, while gold touches are shared on the various logos and text.

Brain Dead x Converse One Star

Brain Dead and Converse are following up their successful Chuck Taylor All Star ‘70 drop with a brand new One Star collaboration. The duo continues its asymmetric theme with a mix of polka dots, zebra and leopard prints across each upper. The foxing welcomes back the similar slogans of “To see and be seen as far as the eye can see,” “Who Controls the Control Men” and “The same elsewhere” in a black tiny font.

The Nike Zoom LeBron 3‘s “Midnight Navy” edition is complemented by white along its upper and silver accents at its lacing rings. Making its debut in 2006, the silhouette is just one of the few older models from King James that has resurfaced such as its “SuperBron” and “Black/Metallic Gold” iterations.

Air Jordan 9 “UNC”

Inspired by Michael Jordan‘s time in North Carolina and part-ownership of the Charlotte Hornets, this Air Jordan 9 mainly sports white and midnight navy for its uppers and patent leather overlays. The Jordan “UNC” is highlighted with dark navy eyelets, complemented with clean white laces. The shoes are finished with university blue Jumpman logos at the heel, midfoot and outsole, while the tongue sees “Air Jordan” text branding.

Under Armour Curry 6 “Working on Excellence”

The forthcoming Under Armour Curry 6 colorway is followed up by one of the Curry family mantras, “Working on Excellence.” The phrase is originally coined by Steph’s cousin-in-law and embodies the understanding that success is earned. The phrase is channeled through a black and white upper which reflects the balance between his work on court and his personal life off the hardwood.

adidas ZX-4000

The adidas ZX-4000 is finally hitting retailers. Its new design mixes the ’90s ZX 4000 sneaker with the Three Stripes’ modern cutting edge Futurecraft midsole unit. Its upper is constructed from suede and mesh, with a colorful design including white, light grey, pale blue and black, complete with pink stitching and detailing. Lastly, adidas’ new 4D midsole in its classic mint green colorway finishes things off.
