Here’s How Instagram Superstar Sita Abellan Experienced Jeremy Scott’s SS17 Show

Fashion Week offers a different experience for everyone. For those behind the lens (aka photographers), the 7-day-long affair is a rigorous whirlwind of endless show-hopping and carpal tunnel-inducing shooting. Then there’s press, who’re required to create time-sensitive content at breakneck speed on a daily basis. Stylists, hair dressers, make-up artists and models are on a perpetual rotation of schlepping from one backstage to the next. PR and production are always at war with the front door (Fashion Week crashers are a notoriously shifty folk), and designers are doing everything in their personal will power to not off themselves before getting a chance to showcasing their work.

For Instagram starlet and globe-trotting DJ Sita Abellan, Fashion Week is a glitzy spectacle where front row seating, celebrity-mingling and street style posing are par for the course.

To see what Fashion Week looks like from the other side, I decided to let Sita take the reins and photograph Jeremy Scott’s SS17 show and after-party. Here’s what she captured.

Be sure to check out Sita’s collaboration with MISBHV during their first-ever womenswear presentation at NYFW

Before claiming her spot in the front row, Sita checked her accompanying swarm of street style photographers at the door to say a quick hello to a few pals backstage. As you can see, Scott’s show brought forth a flurry of high-profile characters, including Paris and Nicki Hilton, Terry Richardson, renowned stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Bebe Rexha and fashion bloggers Caillianne and Samantha Beckerman.

Once the lights dimmed, everyone prepared their iPhones an ensuing Insta-battle. I told Sita to snap some of her favorite looks from the collection (which was an onslaught of sparkly getups inspired by New York City’s once thriving Downtown ’80s club scene). I’ll save my review for another time, but here’s what she thought.

“That slime sweater is so coooool! So punk-Tumblr vibes! I also love the body shapes that the pink and blue outfits create. Also the pop art and Memphis inspiration that I love so much.”

“That bag is just awesome. Jeremy always makes really iconic and cool bags. This one was my favorite at the show.”

“I love the print on these pieces. It’s really ’80s New Wave.”

Her final thoughts on the collection?

“Overall, I am in love with the collection! It’s very chic, glamorous and funny at the same time, combining pop art with an ’80s touch. Jeremy Scott is one of my favorite designers because he knows how to bring together cool colors, feminine shapes and joy into fashion. I love him!”

In other news, Sita will be taking over my job next season. Thanks, Sita.

One of New York Fashion Week’s biggest highlights is Jeremy Scott’s notoriously wild after-parties, which Sita was scheduled to DJ this year. Hosted at one of the Big Apple’s most popular venues, Flash Factory, Sita managed to capture a few candid shots of her eclectic posse of fashion weirdos in VIP, where they thrived until the wee hours of the morning creating content for their respective Snapchat stories.

So there you have it, folks. That’s what Fashion Week looks like from the perspective of a front row social media starlet. (How’s the #FOMO recovery coming along?)
