Nintendo Patented a Playable Game Boy Phone Case

A patent from Nintendo has been published showcasing a Game Boy phone case with fully operational buttons that can be attached and removed for “electronic equipment having a touchscreen.” The patent hints that the design is meant to cover the entire phone, front included, which would basically turn users’ handheld devices into a variation of the iconic portable Game Boy system.

Pressing a button on the case translates the action from the touch screen to the phone itself. However, there has been no apps or games mentioned, speculating on the functionality of the device. It’s also worth noting the patent application never used the words “Game Boy” or “game.” Many are conjecturing that this could be a variation of the company’s successful Classic Editions for its NES and SNES, respectively.
