On Newsstands: WOW Vietnam Spring 2020

Dear readers,

Are you guys okay? We, the editorial team of WOW Vietnam, hope that you are still fine, to get
through the most difficult time in recent years, the time of crisis which can be compared to the
terrorist attack on September 11 in the US. But this time, it has happened to us, right here, right
now.

Like all other industries, the watch industry has suffered the pain from pandemic. Watches &
Wonders and Baselworld 2020 – the two biggest watch exhibitions of the year – have been postponed. Rolex, Patek Philippe, Hublot, Audemars Piguet and other brands have closed the
manufactures, offices and stores respectively. The amount of watches exported to countries
seems to be stagnant. The Swiss watch industry is once again facing many obstacles – which are all displayed in article The Giants in Crash (page 28) or Unprecedented Scenario (page 49).

However, there’s one thing that we can trust is that the watch industry is not fragile. For
hundreds of years, the Swiss watch industry has gone beyond the function of creating time
machines, to reach highest level of elitism, to be a form of art, and a few months or years of
crisis cannot be compared to the heritage of hundreds of years. That legacy will be evident in the watch masterpieces of Patek Philippe in the article The Unrivaled King (page 36), the series of watches associated with the history of Longines in the Golden Age (page 50), or the timepieces that have strong impact to the pop culture in Legend of Spy (page 42).

The watch industry has never been easy to break, as it always creates masterpieces that challenge every human perception, with super-complex functions like tourbillon, perpetual calendar and equation of time. Breguet Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante 5887 is one of these, which is featured in the cover story: Time Equation (page 62).

Holding time, connecting the space, the wristwatch can also eliminate the boundaries of
prejudice. In the article Unisex Watches (page 112), watches with non-gender beauty from hi-
end brands such as Bvlgari, Jaquet Droz, Rolex or Patek Philippe have partly contributed to shape our perspectives and lifestyles, to know that aesthetic beauty, the quintessence of craft art and precision in technology have never been a measure of human gender.

As a result, we will know that the watch industry will always exist, and the current challenge is
just a temporary way point in the journey of centuries.

Wishing you all the peace and luck.
