While most people know him for discovering Justin Bieber, Scooter Braun’s resume also includes founding management firm SB Projects, managing more than 10 music artists, producing movies and being involved in tech start-ups like Uber and Spotify as well as hit CBS television series Scorpion. Last month, Braun also announced that he added his close friend Kanye West to his client list.
In a conversation with Charlie Rose, the Connecticut native describes his experiences managing Bieber since discovering the pop star on YouTube in 2008 as well as working with Kanye after he called him to ask for his management services this past year. Braun understands his job as helping Kanye to execute his vision in fashion and music, which he feels sometimes is misunderstood, and translate it to others. “A lot of people have an assumption that he might be selfish or arrogant. The guy who I’ve gotten to know—who I am learning to translate to others—is someone who literally got himself in financial trouble because he would give the shirt off his back to help someone,” he says. “I want to help take his journey to where he wants to go.”
