Stefano Pilati Random Identities for Pitti Uomo 97

Designer Stefano Pilati brought his latest project Random Identities to Pitti Uomo this season. The former Yves Saint Laurent designer was invited as the Special Guest for the 97th edition of the men’s fashion fair held in Florence, Italy.

The presentation marks a milestone for the label, which Pilati launched in 2018. The menswear-focused brand is inspired by Pilati’s own style, with relaxed suits rendered in rich but neutral tones like navy, cream and black. The Fall/Winter 2020 collection includes an array of androgynous looks as well, such as lace detailing and delicate chains peaking out through the classic menswear cuts.

“Random Identities is my answer, with a fluid and versatile attitude, to the need of defining oneself without marking oneself – by appreciating this proposal, it can continue to evolve and self-create,” Pilati said in a press release of his inspiration for the brand.

Pilati also showcased his footwear collaborations with Li-Ning and Birkenstock at the Pitti runway show. The Li-Ning sneakers include black and brown versions of the brand’s Aurora silhouette, which was originally launched for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Pilati’s version features an LED light on the tongue meant to reference clubbing and cycling gear.

He also joins the likes of Valentino and Rick Owens as one of many luxury designers to bring his touch to the classic Birkenstock sandal. Pilati added texture and pattern to the iconic sandal in the form of leopard print.

Other special guests for this edition of Pitti Uomo include Lucie and Luke Meier of Jil Sander and Telfar. Be sure to also check out our street style round-up for the Florence fashion fair.
