visvim’s Hiroki Nakamura to Launch “My Archive”

Backwards-looking inspiration is at the core of visvim‘s design philosophy, with the brand taking cues from plenty of vintage goods in each collection, like the upcoming Fall/Winter 2018 range. Naturally, creative director and founder Hiroki Nakamura has amassed a substantial archive of retro goods in his quest to deliver updated takes on the classics, and a new exhibition will showcase some key items he’s collected over the years.

Inspired by a monthly feature that Nakamura has contributed to POPEYE magazine since 2012, Nakamura will showcase a variety of his goods from around the globe at a monthlong exhibition in Tokyo. Ranging from an umbrella used by Alaskan shepherds to a Japanese firefighter’s coat from the Edo period, the pieces have been sourced from various continents, countries and time periods, all of which inspired visvim’s time-consuming production philosophy and classic designs.

The exhibit will be accompanied by a panel, co-hosted by POPEYE editors Takahiro Kinoshita and Kosuke Ide, a commemorative book dubbed My Archive and an exclusive capsule range. All centering around the “My Archive Readers Club” theme, the clothes offer plenty of appropriate branding, with a T-shirt, coaches jacket and canvas tote all bearing the slogan. These are no mere souvenirs, however, each item is produced to visvim’s usual standard of quality and follow visvim’s usual price range — The tote, tee and jacket retail for ¥13,000 JPY, ¥15,000 JPY and ¥95,000 JPY respectively (approximately $120 USD, $140 USD and $870 USD respectively).

The exhibit will be held at Shibuya’s EYE OF GYRE from March 17 to April 12, head over to visvim’s website for more information. Most recently, we took a closer look at Nakamura’s favorite pieces from Fall/Winter 2018 and the brand’s dissertation on its Social Sculpture denim.
