adidas has unveiled two new ZX 8000 designs as part of its “Kirschblütenallee” pack, which celebrates a particular moment in Japanese-German relations. In 1990, over €1 million EUR was raised in Japan to plant cherry blossom trees in Berlin as part of the Hanami/Yozakura festival. The gift was to mark the reunification of Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Nowadays, the TV-Asahi-Kirschblütenallee, or Cherry Blossom Alley, is still standing as a monument to this gesture.
Honoring this moment, adidas has reworked the ZX 8000 into two colorways celebrating the cherry blossom. The “Hanami” sneaker comes in a tonal pink colorway with hits of red, referencing the color of the blossom. Secondly, the pack also contains a “Yozakura” sneaker, which takes its name from the blossom in the evening, and comes in a grey color palette with pink detailing.

Both the ZX 8000 “Hanami” and “Yozakura” also feature Tokyo and Berlin lace jewels, Sakura graphics on the tongue and picnic mat-inspired insoles to complete the references to Japan’s Hanami/Yozakura festival from which they take their name.
