Suspected Suicide Bomber Targets Music Festival in Germany

An explosion killed one person and injured 12 others when a bomb went off just outside the entrance to a music festival in the southern German city of Ansbach. According to German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, the explosion at Eugens Weinstube (Eugene’s Winebar) took place at around 10:00 p.m. local time. The man has been identified as a 27-year-old Syrian who had previously been denied asylum. As eye-witnesses report, the perpetrator attempted to enter the festival but was denied due to his lack of ticket. In a press conference early Monday, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Hermann said the Syrian man detonated an explosive device — and died of his injuries — after being turned away from the festival, the Associated Press reports. The festival is reported to have been immediately evacuated following the explosion.
